A small estate winery on Chehalem Mountain outside Newberg, built around a flagship vineyard planted in 1980 on two and a half acres — among the oldest vines in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. Privé began producing wine from this rare old-vine Pommard clone Pinot Noir in 2000, founded by Tina and Mark Hammond, who ran the vineyard and winery as a team and hosted wine club members in their own home for two decades. The estate is divided into two blocks — Le Nord at roughly 600 feet and Le Sud at about 500 feet — whose elevation difference produces distinct microclimates and noticeably different wines.
Winemaker and vineyard steward Piper Rosales-Underbrink joined in 2020 through mutual friends and was brought in as family. Her background includes a first harvest at Flowers Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast in 2015, coursework through the UC Davis enology and viticulture program, a harvest at Joseph Phelps in St. Helena, work opening an urban winery, and time in distilling. The winery also produces the sister label Sealionne, poured from the same property.
Recommended. It’s a small operation and tastings are hosted personally. Old-vine Pommard clone Pinot Noir from the estate, plus Chardonnay and other bottlings under the Sealionne label. Same property and same winemaker, different labels. In winter, Sealionne wines are poured here. Small, quiet, and personal — guests consistently single out host Dan for making the tasting feel unhurried and welcoming. Bell Road on Chehalem Mountain, minutes from Newberg but feeling much farther out.
