Coleman Vineyard

A small family estate in the Coast Range foothills of the McMinnville AVA, first planted in 1991 by co-vintners Randy and Kim Coleman, transplants from Southern California. The site covers roughly 14 acres of Pinot Noir and 9 acres of Pinot Gris on 52-million-year-old volcanic marine sedimentary soils at elevations between 300 and 550 feet. Blocks are planted to Pommard and Dijon 114, 115, 667, 777, and 828, with the south-facing Deer Run block producing a single-clone Dijon 115 bottling — named for the vineyard’s more persistent deer.

The property sits beside the Van Duzer Corridor, so warm summer days are cut by crisp afternoon coastal winds that drop evening temperatures substantially. That swing, plus the volcanic soils, gives the wines their brightness and structure. Krystal Goodman, who has a formal culinary background and grew up locally, is assistant winemaker; Melissa Jackson manages the tasting room and Cellar Club.

Tastings happen either among the barrels in the cellar room or outdoors on the Old Block vineyard lawn. Reservations are appreciated but not required, and the tasting fee is waived with a $50 bottle purchase. Saturdays from 12 to 4 include a complimentary artisan pizza with a wine flight. On the last weekend of each month, a surprise library wine is poured as part of a series called Reminisce. Fondue pairings and vertical tastings appear on the calendar seasonally.
