Overview
One of only ten urban national wildlife refuges in the United States, this 1,856-acre sanctuary protects critical wetlands and forests just outside Portland. The refuge hosts nearly 200 bird species, over 50 mammal species, and 25 reptile and amphibian species. Miles of trails wind through diverse habitats including wetlands, oak woodlands, and riparian forests. The Wildlife Center features educational exhibits, viewing scopes, and hands-on displays.

Is there an admission fee?
No, admission to the refuge is completely free.
Are all trails open year-round?
The year-round River Trail (2 miles) is always open. Seasonal wetland trails are open May 1 – September 30 to protect wintering waterfowl.
Can I bring my dog?
No, pets are not allowed in the refuge to protect wildlife.
What should I bring?
Binoculars are highly recommended for bird watching. The refuge provides viewing scopes at the Wildlife Center and along trails.
