Why I love Oregon Wine Country

Everything grows out here. It’s incredible to see. It’s fruits, vegetables, grains, hops, decorative plants—you name it. Drive to Carlton, McMinnville, or St. Paul and you’ll see it. This slice of the world is uniquely special and there’s a serenity that comes with it. Unplug and absorb the sounds and vibrations of the land here. It’s what we try to do everyday since moving here.

Where to Stay

  • The 1888 Apartments—Gorgeous and unique apartments that can turn from two rentals into one big one.
  • The Fairfield—Reasonably priced and professional
  • Pulp & Circumstance Airbnb—Adorable and perfect location

Favorite Restaurants

  • Red Hills Market—Literally anything. They do no wrong.
  • Forage—Often overlooked on the other side of town, but the food here is consistently top notch. I get one of their pasta dishes, but their pizzas are great too.
  • Jem100—Often overlooked. Cheesy smash burger if you’re looking for an indulgence, but otherwise the BLT and Reuben are great.

Where to Taste

  • Et Fille Tasting Room—The wine is great, which is nothing special on the Willamette valley. What makes this place special is the service and knowledge and atmosphere. You feel welcome here from the get go and Emma has an incredible presence.
  • Abbey Road Vineyard—An absolutely gorgeous property with so many things packed into their acres. Whether it be the farm animals or the lawn for the kids to run around or the multiple different grapes/wine grown on the property, it’s our go to without question.
  • Limited Addition—Bree Stock is literally one of the most knowledgeable people about wine in the valley. Her wine is as unique as it is awesome.

Activities

  • Ewing young park trails
  • Champoeg
  • Tualatin wildlife refuge
  • Newgrass Festival
  • Lavender Festival
  • Mac Farmers Market
