Who we are

Drink With Us (drinkwithus.com) is run by Lauren Donoho in Newberg, Oregon. Write to lauren@drinkwithus.com with any question about this policy.

What we collect, and why

We collect as little as we can and only when you hand it to us or when the site needs it to work.

Things you give us

  • Ask Lauren chat. Your message, and if you want a reply, your name and a mobile number or email address, plus which method you prefer. We keep the conversation so Lauren can answer it.
  • Newsletter. Your name and email address, so we can send the newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • Guide and listing submissions. What you write, your name, your business's name and address, your email, and any photos you upload. If we publish it, the guide or listing is public; your email is not.
  • Planning sessions. If you book time with Lauren through Calendly, Calendly collects your name, email and the time you chose under its own privacy policy.
  • Accounts. If you create an account, your name, email and password (stored hashed), and the places you save to My Trip.

Things the site collects on its own

  • My Trip. Places you save are kept in a cookie on your device (dwu_favorites) or, if you're logged in, in your account.
  • Chat continuity. A random token in a cookie (dwu_chat_token) so the chat window can pick your conversation back up for a week. It identifies the conversation, not you.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager to see which pages people read and where visitors come from, in aggregate. Google sets its own cookies for this. Analytics is turned off for logged-in site staff. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
  • Fonts. Adobe Fonts (Typekit) serves some of our typefaces and may log your browser's request under Adobe's privacy policy.
  • Server logs. Our host, WP Engine, keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal information. We don't buy lists. We don't share your details with the businesses we write about. We don't run behavioural advertising; the ads on this site are placed by us for local businesses and don't track you.

Who sees your information

Lauren and, where she has help, people working on the site under her direction. Service providers that process data on our behalf: WP Engine (hosting), Google (analytics), Adobe (fonts), Calendly (bookings), our email newsletter provider, and our phone carrier when you ask for a text. Each only gets what it needs for its job.

Text messages

If you ask Lauren to text you back from the chat, you're giving consent to receive a text reply about your question. It's a person answering, not a campaign, and it isn't marketing. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop.

How long we keep things

Chat conversations: until they're closed, then up to 12 months. Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe. Submissions: as long as the guide or listing is on the site, then 12 months. Analytics: Google's default retention (14 months). Server logs: per WP Engine's policy.

Your choices and rights

Whatever state or country you're in, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and we will, within 30 days. Email lauren@drinkwithus.com. You can also unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, clear your browser's cookies to remove My Trip and chat data, and use Google's opt-out for analytics. If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have these rights in law as well; we honour them for everyone.

Children

This site is about wine country and is written for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Links to other sites

We link to wineries, restaurants, shops (including Minthorn Mercantile, Lauren's store, which runs on Shopify under its own policy), and to Fora Travel. Their sites have their own policies.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so at the top of this page with a new date.
