Rhonda Feero is an interior designer, and it shows in everything about this shop. She opened La Bella Casa in 1999 in a small vintage house near downtown, then expanded into 3,500 square feet in the historic Wright Building on the corner of Third and Davis.
Her thinking about the place is straightforward: your home is your refuge, and you want accessories in it that enrich your life. She wanted a store where you could relax, browse, and come away with ideas rather than just purchases.
The buying reflects a designer’s eye rather than a gift-shop formula. Home decor, oversized mirrors, candles, kitchenware, stationery and cards, jewelry, and a children’s section that gets singled out constantly — the Jellycat selection in particular. Over the years the shop has carried things like Sid Dickens’s hand-poured plaster tiles and Peacock Alley linens, the sort of stock you’d expect in a Portland design store rather than a town of 35,000.
Gift wrapping is included and mentioned in nearly every review, ribbon and tissue and all.
The service comes up too. One customer’s hand wash leaked onto a purse they’d bought the same day; they came back anxious about it and left with a full refund, a replacement bottle, and a credit toward something else.
