Et Fille, which means “and daughter,” is a second-generation, woman-owned, Certified B Corp winery. Howard Mozeico grew grapes in the backyard and made wine in the garage from 1984 onward. His daughter Jessica’s job was cleaning up afterward. When she turned 21 he was thrilled to pour her a glass over dinner, and they spent the next 24 years planning their dinners around wine.

Neither had wine as a career plan. Howard co-founded a software company; Jessica went to graduate school in business, worked in management consulting for pharmaceutical and biotech firms, then in biotechnology itself. Then Howard called to say he was considering taking the hobby professional, and made clear he wanted her help. Her own account of it: her path into wine was entirely out of family loyalty.

They founded Et Fille in 2003. They made wine side by side as co-winemakers until Howard died in 2017.

Jessica has run it since. She’s blunt that she had no academic or internship pedigree, just fourteen years learning by doing alongside her father. The results speak for themselves: recent releases have earned 92 to 97 points from Wine Spectator, Decanter, Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling, and Wine Enthusiast.

The range is broader than most: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Viognier, Gamay Noir, Nebbiolo, and sparkling, from eight sustainably farmed vineyards across the valley.

The sustainability work goes past the vineyard. Lighter packaging built from locally produced recyclable components, and no capsules on the bottles — a small thing that eliminates a lot of waste. Et Fille was named a Best for the World B Corp in 2022.

Jessica has served as president of the Willamette Valley Wineries Association, appeared on Wine Business Monthly’s Wine Industry Leaders list, and was honored among the Portland Business Journal’s Women of Influence. The name now carries a third meaning too — her own daughter.
