Pulp & Circumstance occupies a charming hundred-year-old Victorian house on College Street, and each room is a different experience and theme. Named best boutique in Newberg two years running, owner Jennifer Sitter has created a fabulous gift shop for all ages.

The entry is home decor. The old kitchen at the back is now a candy shop, stocked with local and regional chocolates, old-fashioned sweets, and specialty confections. Another room is toys and kids’ things. Elsewhere you’ll find jewelry, cards, stickers, socks, magnets, lip balm, and small-batch art — the kind of inventory where you go looking for one gift and leave with three.

A good share of it is made in Oregon.

There’s a practical bonus: the two attic rooms upstairs operate as a guest loft, which means you can stay above the shop. Guests have the entire building to themselves in the evenings once the boutique closes.

It sits at the top of College Street among a cluster worth walking — Valley Wine Merchants, Blue Trout Gallery, Bravuro Cellars, and The Painted Lady are all within a minute and around the corner from the rest of downtown Newberg.
