Six Peaks Wine Company

John and Lynn Albin planted their first Oregon vineyard in 1981, high atop Bald Peak in the Chehalem Mountains, focused from the outset on sparkling wine. These are among the oldest vineyards in the state.

John spent years as winemaker at King Estate while tending his own vines at Laurel Vineyard, and expanded from growing into winemaking about a decade after planting. The winery operated as J. Albin for years before becoming Six Peaks. Their second label, Lorelle, was an immediate success, and the family brand has followed it.

The name is literal. From the vineyard you can see five Cascade peaks — Hood, Jefferson, Adams, St. Helens, and Rainier. Add Bald Peak, where you’re standing, and that’s six. Guests routinely describe it as the best view they’ve found in Oregon wine country.

John, Lynn, and their son Andrew still run the operation. Beyond the estate fruit, John’s long career means he sources from many of the region’s best growers, which gives the tasting more range than most small wineries manage — estate Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Saignée Rosé, and sparkling, plus Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, and dessert wines in small lots.

Tastings happen outdoors on a covered deck, with blankets and personal heaters when it’s cool. A new winemaking facility and larger tasting room are under construction on the property.

There are five dogs. Guests describe it as the most dog-friendly winery they’ve visited, which is a competitive category around here.
