Dennis and Marlene Grant bought eleven acres on Parrett Mountain in 1992 for the simplest reason: they loved Newberg and they loved the feel of the place. It faces north, which means the sun never gets strong enough to ripen much of anything. There’s a single acre of Pinot Noir planted, and that’s about all the site will do.

So they buy fruit instead. Barbera, Sangiovese, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Tempranillo, and a Zinfandel port, mostly sourced from warmer Oregon regions, alongside Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, white Pinot Noir, rosé, and a sparkling Albariño. In a valley that runs on Pinot, they went the other direction entirely and built a following on big reds. Their 2012 Zinfandel took Best in Show at the 2014 Oregon State Competition, with medals for the Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Barbera the same year.

They started making wine as amateurs and went commercial in 2010, opening the tasting room in September 2018. Their daughters Sara and Kelly have been part of it throughout — Sara now coordinates private events. Every step from harvest through bottling is done by hand.

The tasting room is lodge-style, built from fir, cedar, and maple harvested on the property, with a 28-foot cedar as the focal point and a fireplace for cool days. Blankets are provided. Outside there’s a patio, a lawn, and a tree deck built into the canopy. The view faces north across the Willamette and Tualatin Valleys toward Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier.

Practical touches are unusually good: 45 parking spaces on a paved lot, handicap parking, a bicycle repair station and rack, and two EV chargers including one for Teslas. The room is a popular wedding and event venue, and guests consistently name Sara for how she handles it.

Common questions

Do I need a reservation?
Walk-ins are fine for small groups and individuals. Reservations are required for parties of eight or more.

What should I taste?
The big reds — Zinfandel, Barbera, Malbec, Tempranillo. If you’ve had enough Pinot, this is the place. Sara’s Sparkling Albariño is worth asking about.

Are dogs allowed?
Yes, leashed, in certain areas.

What’s the tree deck?
An outdoor deck built up among the trees, and the thing guests photograph most.

Is it comfortable in winter?
Very. Fireplace, blankets, and a room built from timber cut on the property.

Can I bike there?
Yes — there’s a bicycle rack and repair station, and they recommend the paved uphill driveway.

Is there EV charging?
Yes, two connectors including one for Teslas.

Can I host an event?

Yes. Weddings, birthdays, corporate gatherings. Contact Sara Funston.
