NW Food & Gifts

In December 2007, at a holiday market in downtown McMinnville, local artists and crafters were talking about how good it would be to have a shop carrying their work year-round. On Christmas Eve, after the market closed, that conversation sent the founders walking down Third Street. They found a corner storefront, looked through the window, and imagined the rest. NW Food & Gifts opened on March 7, 2008.

They started with nineteen local artists and a small selection of wine and gourmet food. It now represents over 200 Pacific Northwest artists, artisans, and gift crafters, alongside more than 500 gourmet food items and 160-plus wine labels from Oregon and Washington.

That scale is the point. There are more local vendors here than in the big “Made In Oregon” style stores, without the premium pricing — jewelry, pottery, 3D-printed pieces, handmade cuffs, jams, honey, jerky, semi-precious gemstone work, and a rotating cast of things you won’t see anywhere else. During the UFO Festival the whole shop leans into alien merchandise, most of it by local artists.

The other half is the wine. Tastings run daily at a small bar by the front window, focused on small boutique producers from the valley — Patricia Green, Deuce Cellars, and others most visitors haven’t come across. Owner James Tate pours and tells the stories behind the vintners, and reviewers describe leaving feeling like they’d made a friend. Sitting out front with a glass at four in the afternoon is a McMinnville thing.

They also run NW Cru next door, a more intimate art-filled tasting room with rotating international selections, in-house charcuterie, and fresh artisan popcorn — and it’s where Denison Cellars pours on Saturdays.

Open until 7 most nights and 8 on weekends, which makes it one of the later options downtown.
