3rd Street Flats

Erin Stephenson and Brian Shea launched 3rd Street Flats in 2010 as a fusion concept — hotel, B&B, and vacation rental combined. Erin is a McMinnville native. The success of the flats is what gave them the confidence to build the Atticus Hotel eight years later, and the two operate as sister properties.

There are eleven flats across two historic buildings, three blocks apart, and the split between them matters.

The Historic McMinnville Bank at 219 NE Cowls holds the self-service flats. These suit people who want a great space and would rather be left alone. The 4th Flat, called The Retreat, occupies the corner of the second story with views over Third Street, exposed brick, a bar, and a fireplace — 750 square feet with a distinctly postwar feel.

The Odd Fellows Lodge at 555 NE Third, built in 1909, holds the full-service flats, which come with a menu of services from the Atticus next door — including room service from Cypress, the Atticus restaurant. Coco, once the building’s grand ballroom, is a two-bedroom in black and white with 18-foot ceilings and a dramatic fireplace. Another two-bedroom on the third floor runs 850 square feet and sleeps six.

All of them have full kitchens, and all of them sit directly above tasting rooms, restaurants, and boutiques. Walk down the stairs and you’re on Third Street.

Two things to know before booking. Neither building has an elevator — flats at the Bank are on the second story, and the Odd Fellows flats are on the second and third, all stair access only, not wheelchair accessible. And you pick up keys at the Atticus Hotel regardless of which building you’re staying in.

Parking is straightforward: two public lots behind the Bank building, more at the Presbyterian church lot at Second and Cowls. Third Street parking is two-hour limited during the day but unrestricted from 6 PM to 9 AM.
