Christine and Sarah lived in a yellow cottage in the Oregon countryside and had a mouse problem. They started wondering what the mice made of it, and whether the humans were the problem from where the mice sat.
That turned into The Yellow Cottage: A Critter’s Tale — 24 chapters about woodland animals living around a country cottage, facing changes to their home and getting through them. It sits in the tradition of Wind in the Willows and Winnie the Pooh.
They made it by hand. Pen, paper, watercolor, no AI, which they say plainly on their site and which is worth something right now. It’s casebound in linen hardcover with watercolor and ink illustrations throughout, a glossary, and a field guide to the critters. Printed by Brown Printing in Portland.
Self-published, and it took a Kickstarter to get there. The books arrived recently.
