The Setting Inn

Eight rooms on ten acres outside Newberg and every room is different. Some have balconies. Some have soaking tubs. Some have window seats.

The property was Le Puy Inn before Jeff Cova and Noah McMahon of The Setting Wines bought it in 2021, renovated it completely, and reopened it that May. What they built is a hillside overlooking Chehalem Ridge planted with rows of lavender, Cypress trees, fruit trees, and a small vineyard you can walk. There are firepits in the courtyard, a bocce court, and a 2,000-square-foot barn converted into a den with club chairs and a big screen. Goats, horses, and cattle graze the neighboring farms.

Breakfast comes to your room every morning: craft pastries, cured meat, fruit, and fromage blanc from Briar Rose Creamery down the road in Dundee. Flowers throughout the property come from Pollinate Flowers in Newberg.

The tasting room downstairs is the other reason to stay. It pours Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay alongside Sonoma and Napa Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc, all made by Jesse Katz — whose Cabernet holds the record for the highest price ever paid at auction for a single bottle. Tasting Oregon and California side by side from one winemaker isn’t something you can do anywhere else in the valley.

You’re on Highway 240 west of Newberg, which puts Ribbon Ridge and the Chehalem Mountains within a few minutes and downtown about ten.
