Red Berry Barn

Red Berry Barn is a family farm and retail store on Chapman Road outside Sherwood, and it runs on a seasonal rhythm that keeps it worth returning to.

Spring and summer are about the hanging baskets. They’re enormous — the largest run around $110 — and people drive out specifically for them. Individual annuals are available alongside, generally the varieties left over from the basket program, at four or five dollars for a four-inch pot. Then strawberry season brings u-pick, and the cafe and bakery come into their own.

Fall is the Harvest Festival, running roughly late September through October. Five acres of corn maze, a pumpkin patch, barrel train, bounce house, slides, wooden play structure, a covered dried corn play area with dump trucks, zip line, irrigation slides, and animals — mini goats, donkeys, and a fluffy cow. Wristbands are sold on site, with morning and afternoon options.

November and December they shift to holiday hours.

Underneath all of it is the bakery, which is what turns a seasonal farm into a year-round stop. Home-baked pies both sweet and savory, freshly churned ice cream and gelato, slushies, hot apple cider, and the apple cider donuts that people make the drive for. There’s a deli, coffee, and a country store with jams, honey, local goods, home decor, and toys.

The property is compact enough that you can leave the diaper bag in the car and go back when you need it. There’s covered outdoor seating with a view.

It’s off 99W between Sherwood and Newberg, which puts it directly on the route in from Portland.
