A 30-acre family farm and garden with a beautifually curated gift shop/cafe between Hillsboro and Newberg, started in 1978 as a u-pick raspberry operation. The farm now grows more than 20 varieties of berries — strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, marionberries, and blackberries including boysenberry, loganberry, and tayberry — alongside a five-acre apple orchard with over 20 antique and modern varieties. Remaining acreage produces gourmet greens, fresh herbs, squash and pumpkins, and heirloom tomatoes and peppers. U-pick flowers are available in season.
The market itself is housed in a red barn with a covered front, so the outdoor shopping works even in the rain. Inside are the farm’s own preserves, raw honey from hives kept on the property, home and garden decor, kitchen and bath goods, and cooking and gardening books. A greenhouse stocks flowers and hanging baskets in spring. Milkshakes are made to order with farm berries and Cascade Glacier ice cream, which is also sold by the scoop, and espresso is Caffe Umbria. There are farm animals to feed and a resident barn cat.
Strawberries peak in early June, with cane berries and blackberries following through summer. Apples and pears arrive in fall. Call ahead — the u-pick calendar moves with the weather. Yes, and containers are also provided. Excellent. Animals to feed, room to run, and milkshakes as the reward. No — the market and milkshake counter are open to everyone. Mondays. And u-pick entry closes at 4 PM even though the market stays open until 5. South Store Cafe is next door, and the Chehalem Mountains tasting rooms are a short drive up.
